On Saturday, August 20, 2011 is Olympias 82nd annual Pet Parade. Yes, for 81 years this delightful event has been a part of Olympia's summer family fun - fun for human and non-human family members. Observers are welcome to bring pets, too. As long as they're comfortable being around other animals. The Olympia Pet Parade is one of those charming happenings that makes Olympia feel more like a small town than a capitol city.
The summer is finally upon us, and Olympia is the place to be for art, culture, and family fun. The summer kicks off with the Greater Olympia Dixieland Jazz Festival, June 23 - 26 at Saint Martin's University's Marcus Pavilion. From July through August enjoy Music In The Park, an event sponsored by the Olympia Downtown Association which offers something for every music lover.
Lacey Parks and Recreation Department is ready for summer! Their annual Lacey Summer Entertainment schedule kicks off tomorrow evening with the first performance in their Children's Entertainment Series. With great entertainment for kids, lunch hour musical performances, and outdoor movie showings, Huntamer Park will be the place to be in Lacey this summer.
The Lacey Rotary Duck Dash is right around the corner, and the weather is supposed to be amazing. This Saturday, June 4th, its time to get your ducks in a row and come out to Tumwater Falls Park. Enjoy the cool breeze from the Deschutes River and watch those duckies dash. You might even win something!

Time to stretch out and load up on carbs, the Capital City Marathon is coming to town! The streets of Olympia will be taken over by foot traffic on Sunday, May 15 as runners and walkers make a loop from Downtown Olympia out to Boston Harbor and back. 4 races will take place Sunday morning with the Marathon, Half Marathon, 5 Miler, and Kids Fun Run.
Timberline High School's theatre company is proud to present Hairspray! The play opened yesterday, but you still have 5 chances check it out. Performances continue tonight and tomorrow (May 6 & 7) then pick back up next week on Thursday, Friday & Saturday (May 12-14). The show begins at 7:00 p.m. and tickets are available online.
The annual Olympia Wooden Boat Festival is all set for this weekend, May 7 & 8. Arts and crafts booths, food stands and, of course, wooden boats will be on display down at Percival Landing on Saturday and Sunday. So, take mom out for Mother's Day brunch, then make your way downtown to enjoy the Wooden Boat Festival!
